Prep and Aftercare Instructions and Tips
Here are a few helpful reminders and spray tanning tips!
- Exfoliate and shave 24-48 hours before your spray tan appointment. Please please please do not shave right before your appointment. It’s best to not shower a minimum of 4 hours before your spray tan to let all your pores close and the ph of your skin to return to normal. Loofas and rags do not count as exfoliants. An exfoliating mitt is the best way to prep. I can send you amazon links if you need recs!
- If you need to warm water rinse before your appointment, avoid washing your hair. Shampoo/conditioner can leave a film on your back. If coming straight from work or school, I recommend the Norvell Exmitt to help prep your skin before you get your spray.
- Get manis and pedis before you plan to get sprayed. All waxing should be done 24-48 prior to tanning appointment as well!
- No dove, olay, Irish springs, bath and body works, tree hut, or dial soaps. The super moisturizing soaps leave a film that’s a barrier to your tan and the harsh soaps will strip you tan off! Please stop these products 24-48 hours before your appointment. The Native brand is my favorite spray tan friendly soap.
- Come to appointment free of make up, deodorant, lotion, and perfume. Come with nothing on your skin.
- Wear loose dark clothing to your tan appointment. No leggings or tight clothing! The baggier the better. It’s best to go bra free if you can. Straps can rub the tan off your shoulders. Slides/flip flops are preferred over socks and tennis shoes. If you are sleeping in your tan I highly recommend wearing pants and long sleeves to avoid transfer while you are sleeping.
- First rinse, use luke warm water only. No soap! Rinse until the water runs clear using water and hands only. Pat your skin dry but do not rub with a towel!
- After your first rinse, use soaps and lotions that are mineral and paraben free. High alcohol content can also strip your tan (like bath and body works). Hempz and Shea Moisture lotion are great options.
- Moisturize twice a day and drink a lot of water to help maintain your tan!
- You still need to use SPF when going outside with your spray tan. The aerosol sunscreen sprays are high in alcohol so avoid those if possible. Sunbum and Coola SPF lotions are two great options.
- I do not advise spraying over a sunburn. Spray tanning will accelerate the peeling process and results with be splotchy at best. Healing from a sunburn can take weeks. Please reach out before your appointment if you think you have any unhealed sun burn areas.
Please let me know ahead of time if you have any allergies, especially any nut allergies!
